Lahore- Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Akmal Sohail Tanvir and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmad have been named in the One-day and Twenty20 squads against Sri Lanka announced here on Wednesday.
Adnan Akmal will return to Pakistan after the Test series as Sarfraz Ahmad after his superb performance in domestic cricket forced his way into the squad.
Earlier Afridi was called on new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf on Wednesday and briefed about his availability to play for Pakistan in future.
Later chief selector M Illyas meets with the chairman for approval of squads that chosen by the selectors for the ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka.
The chief selector gave clean chit to Shahid Afridi and his name was included in the final squad.
"I still have a lot to offer to the Pakistan cricket and I am grateful to the chairman for meeting me and listening to me. I am grateful that he raised my morale a lot," Afridi said after his meeting with Ashraf. The flamboyant cricketer, though, admitted that his selection into the squad was up to the national selection committee.
He was ready to perform any role assigned to him and insisted that he shared a good relationship with the present skipper of the team, Misbah-ul-Haq, Afridi added. "I just want to play for Pakistan and willing to play under any captain.
Afridi, 31, was captain for the 50-over World Cup at the start of the year but then announced his retirement in May after being removed as skipper. "I am delighted to be back in the team and I am ready to ... give my full support to captain Misbah-ul-Haq," Afridi told reporters.
Afridi also backed Ashraf's suggestion of having separate coaches for batting, bowling and fielding in the team. "I think it is a very good idea and it really does not matter whether we have foreign or local coaches. But the coaches should be qualified and should have the ability to support and lift the players even if they are not performing and not run them down," he insisted.
Razzaq, 31, has not been picked since the World Cup. He and Afridi have played 587 one-day internationals between them. The selectors omitted batsmen Taufiq Umar and Azhar Ali, wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal and paceman Wahab Riaz from the one-day squad. The teams will play five one-dayers, starting in Dubai on Nov. 11, and a single Twenty20 match.
