OUR STAFF REPORTER KOT ADDU - The registration of a case against a Jamaat-e-Islami leader under the Anti-Terrorism Act for holding a conference on the Kashmir jihad has incited a widespread condemnation of political and religious figures. Police have framed charges against Mian Shafiq Azhar, 90, and one Muneebur Rehman under Section-7 of the ATA for holding the moot, for which permission was sought from the administration beforehand. Politico-religious parties have strongly reacted to police highhandedness and demanded immediate withdrawal of the case. JI leaders - Haji Bashir Ahmad, Mohammad Arshad Sidique, Shiekh Mohammad Akbar - say that a false case has been instituted against the partys member as the assertions made in the FIR are totally untrue and fabricated. They say if the case was not dropped, this injustice and highhandedness would be bitterly protested. The moot held last Sunday at Mumtaz Park was addressed by Muttahida Jihad Council Chairman Sayyad Sallahuddin, Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen supreme commander Maulana Javed Qasori and JI district chief Rana Umar Daraz Faooqui. Other political and religious figures, Dr Dost Mohammd Buzdar and Qari Ismael Asif have, while strongly condemning this highhandedness, asked for immediate withdrawal of the case. Meanwhile, a drug pusher was held with 3-kg hashish on Wednesday. Police were tipped off about Ziaullah Niazi coming to Kot Addu with 3-kg charas. Sub-inspector Fida Husain Bukhari arrested the drug peddler as he alighted from a bus near north railway crossing. A case has been registered against him. 160 bags fake fertiliser seized: 160 bags of fake fertilizer recovered and FIR has been registered against the dealer in Mauza Gujrat, some 40-km from here. As per detail, Deputy District Officer Agriculture Mohammad Iqbal Khan Niazi raided Al-Mumtaz Traders in Gujrat area and recovered 160 bags of fake fertilizer, worth Rs300,000. Gypsum was filled instead of 18% SSP fertilizer in the bags. A case has been registered against fertilizer dealer Mumtaz in the Mahmmood Kot Police Station. The DDO said that no one would be allowed to sell adulterated fertilizer and raids would be continued against such elements. He said that dealers should use fertilizer of well-known companies otherwise the government will take strict action against them. DCO for viable security plan for Eid: The DCO has stressed the need for preparing a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha. Chairing a meeting of the District Emergency Board on Monday, the DCO said that negligence by any official would not be tolerated. Among others the meeting was attended by TMA Administrator Fakharul Islam Dogar, Hafizabad AC Noman Hafeezm, officials of WAPDA, SNGPL, PTCL and Rescue 1122. The DCO directed owners of bus and wagon stands to conduct fumigation to curb dengue virus. He asked RTA Secretary Zaheer Abbas Chatha to strictly monitor fumigation at bus terminals.
