OUR STAFF REPORTER HAFIZABAD Urea fertilizers prices have shot up to Rs2,200 per bag which has disappointed the growers in the area, the Kissan Board Chairman said. While addressing a press conference, President District Kissan Board Amanullah Chattha said that last year the urea was sold at Rs765 per bag during wheat season but at the beginning of Rabi season its prices had gone sky-rocketing which are beyond the reach of even big landlords not to speak of small farmers. He said that the government had announced importing 0.7 million tone of urea and stressed the need for making arrangements to import quantity urea to bring down prices in the open market. He also urged the government to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to fertilizers factories in the country at least for two months so that to enable the factories to maximize fertilizers production to meet to requirements of the growers to maximize wheat production. He also demanded announcement of new wheat support price of wheat without further delay to provide incentive to the growers to maximize food output. Woman among two killed in road mishap: Two persons including a woman were killed while two others seriously injured in two road mishaps here on Wednesday. According to hospital sources, a bike-rider was killed on the sport when he was hit by a donkey-cart near Jalalpur Bhattian. In another incident, a woman Rehana was killed while her son Shakeel and husband sustained serious injuries when their bike was hit by a tractor-trolley on Jalalpur Bhattian Bypass here on Wednesday. The injured were shifted to hospital in critical condition. 7 more suspended for absence: As many seven teachers including a lady teacher of three different schools were suspended for their absence from duty. During surprise visit to Govt High school Madhrianwala, EDO Education Dr Naeem Iqbal founded Jamaat Ali, Armaneen Mehraj, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Latif and Muhammad Tufail were absent from duty. He forthwith suspended them and called explanation from the headmaster. He later visited Govt Girls Primary School Kot Mian and found Fakhra Batool absent from duty. He suspended the teacher and headmistress and headmaster were directed to show explanation. The EDO warned absent teachers of stern action and said that he would show zero tolerance for work shirkers teachers. During the past two days 19 teachers have been suspended for absence from duty. Walk against dengue: MPA Asadullah Arian has called upon teachers, students and members of civil society to play their role in educating the masses to save them from dengue virus.
