Weeklong tribute to Allama Iqbal begins today

The district administration has announced celebration of ‘Iqbal Week’ to pay homage to Poet-Philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Giving details about the Iqbal week, Sialkot DCO Nadeem Sarwar informed that the Iqbal week celebrations would begin in the district from Nov 3, which would continue till Nov 9, saying that a grand book fair on Iqbaliyat would also be held at the city’s congested Allama Iqbal Chowk. He said that the district administration would distribute thousands of stickers to be displayed on vehicles besides establishing camps in various parts of the city to promote Iqbaliyat, adding that giant hoardings carrying rare pictures and famous poetry of Allama Iqbal, banners and steamers would also be displayed by various government departments and private organisations including Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
Local radio stations FM 94, 101 and 104 will air live transmissions on the services and poetry of Dr Allama Iqbal.
The DCO revealed that a massive rally would also be taken out on Nov 5, to promote the philosophy of Allama Iqbal, while seminars and symposiums on Allama Iqbal would be also be held at Seerat Study Centre Sialkot Cantt, Iqbal Centre and Allama Iqbal Library , besides competitions on Kalam-e-Iqbal and speeches at all government and private schools and colleges on Nov 6 and 7.
Similarly, the SCCI will also hold Iqbal Conference at SCCI Auditorium to promote Iqbaliyat on Nov 8 here.
The DCO narrated that district administration would also hold an All Pakistan Mehfil-e-Mushaaira at the lawns of the Anwar Club Auditorium Sialkot on night of Nov 8, wherein prominent poets from across the country including Amjad Islam Amjad, Attaul Haq Qasimi and Anwar Masood would participate and pay their homage to Allama Iqbal. On November 9, a grand cake-cutting ceremony would also be held at Iqbal Manzil Sialkot to mark the importance of Allama Iqbal’s birthday in Sialkot.
Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar is expected to be the chief guest at the cake-cutting ceremony.
Meanwhile, an exhibition of rare books and personal things of Allama Iqbal and his family members would also be held at Iqbal Manzil here. The day will dawn with special prayers and Quran Khawani at Iqbal Manzil while the district administration would also take out walk from Iqbal Manzil to the Imam Sahib Graveyard.
