islamabad - A motorist lost his life while 24 female students and three others received injuries when a bus of Islamic International University (IIUI) met an accident on Kashmir Highway yesterday.

Talking to The Nation, a university official Noman confirmed the incident and said it occurred on G-11 signal of Kashmir Highway. “A total of 28 people were affected in the incident in which a motorcyclist lost his life while helper of the bus received bone fracture,” he said.

According to him, all the injured were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) immediately.

Police sources said that incident took place because of mechanical fault in the bus.

Talking to The Nation, a hospital official said that the motorist was dead when he was brought to hospital while two persons including a male and female got fractures. All the injured were later discharged after providing them first aid.

Mohammad Waqas, a witness of the incident informed The Nation that speed of the bus increased suddenly and it rammed into a pole on green belt on left side of the road. “The driver while keeping the bus on left side tried to avoid the collision with other vehicles on highway but, crushed the motorcyclist standing on the side near signal,” he said. The bus was carrying around fifty female students.

A CCTV video available to The Nation showed the forceful slamming of bus with pole and motorcyclist, while a student is also seen falling out from the windscreen of the vehicle.

Rector IIUI Dr Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI visited the hospital to inquire about the injured and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of a life in the unfortunate happening. They also directed the concerned officials of the varsity to extend maximum cooperation to the injured and investigate the cause of accident.

Meanwhile, deans, director general, Director female campus, faculty members and other officials of IIUI reached the hospital and inquired about the health of injured and ensured them of maximum cooperation.
