MIRPURKHAS - At least six hours of prolonged power breakdown caused great hardships to the people here on Thursday.
Water supply was disrupted while the business activities also remained suspended during the breakdown.
The supply of electricity was suspended to various areas, including Market Chowk, Shahi Bazaar, Khisak Pura, Toorabad, Dholanabad, Sarafa Bazaar, MA Jinnah Road, Newtown, Umerkot Road, Gharibabad and Lalchandabad at 3 PM in the afternoon due to which residents of these localities were deprived of water while the business activities also came to a halt.
Talking to this reporter, the residents alleged that Hesco officials were themselves corrupt and also allowed power theft as a result of which line losses had increased.
They also alleged that in order to hide their corruption, they regularly issued detection bills and resorted to prolonged loadshedding. As a result of their malpractices, resentment prevailed in people, they added. They called upon the Hesco chief to stop issuance of detection bills and also punish the corrupt officials in his department.
When Hesco officials were approached for their version, they said that electricity supply lines were being changed which necessitated the six-hour-long power outage.
