EU parliamentary delegation arrives in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD - Four member powerful European Union (EU) parliamentary delegation has arrived in Islamabad on a two-day visit to Pakistan. A spokesperson for the EU mission to Pakistan  told the Nation that the delegation would meet government leaders, civil society leaders including leading NGOs to discuss  a number of issues including democracy, freedom of press, human rights and issues related to the rights of the religious minorities, economic and trade ties between Pakistan and EU countries. The delegation include Nicola Procaccini Head of the delegation who is Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, Luis Garicano Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, Heidi Hautala Vice-President of the European Parliament and Member of the Committee on International Trade (Rapporteur on the GSP regulation), also Member of the Subcommittee on Human Rights and Tomáš Zdechovský who is Vice-Chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and also Member of the Committee on Budgetary Control. Sources told the Nation that government leaders would brief the delegation about massive human rights violations in IIOJK and regional security situation including the situation in Afghanistan.
