LAHORE - The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the government to declare priority for housing industry for rapid rehabilitation of SME farmers. President of the Unisame Zulfikar Thaver chairing the final session of the fourth SME Conference invited the attention of the policy makers to the most urgent need of the SME farmers who have been displaced and need the facility of housing and accordingly top priority should be declared for the housing industry and facilities be provided to the industries involved in manufacturing products for the building industry. He said the housing industry comprises 32 different industries making bricks, cement, windows and doors, tiles, locks, iron and steel products, electrical switches and wires, paints and brushes, furniture, tools, nuts and bolts and miscellaneous items and each one of them contributes to the building of houses and the industries must be supported financially to increase their production to cope up with the increased demand from the farm sector. He also suggested that the House Building Finance Corporation (HBFC) should increase their portfolio to accommodate the applicants whose houses have been destroyed in the flood. He said now there will be co-operative and corporate farming and farmers will modernize their farms and should be given the facilities of leasing farm machinery for mechanized farming. He emphasized the need for looking at the brighter side and take advantage from the benefits of the improved condition of the soil.
