Illegal polythene bags manufacturers fined

LAHORE - Environment Department Punjab Saturday launched a crackdown against the factories involved in illegal manufacturing of black polythene shopping bags during which an amount of Rs0.9million was collected as fine from them. The action was taken on the special directives of Secretary Environment Sajjad Saleem Hotiana and Director General Shahgufta Jahan. During the operation, 330 cases were registered in Jhang while the number in other districts stood at Sheikhupura 179, Sargodha 157, Khanewal 156, Attock 141, Lodhran 134, Faisalabad and Rahim Yar Khan 125, Toba Tek Singh and Rawalpindi 120, Bahawalpur 119, Layyah 115, Okara 114 and Nankana Sahib 108. No case of illegal manufacturing of polythene bags was found in Multan, DG Khan and Mandi Bahauddin.
