Chairman BISP takes notice of issue of fake SMS messages

Islamabad- Chairman Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Enver Baig has once again taken a serious notice of the issue of Fake SMS Messages and has issued directives to senior officials in this regard.

The directives have been issued on complaints received by BISP regarding cases where people from all segments of the society have been deprived of money through SMS messages promising them cash returns from BISP. Chairman BISP has asked the officials of the Program to follow up on the complaints forwarded to relevant government agencies and to expedite affirmative action on the matter.

The problem has persisted for a long time and, on the directives of Chairman BISP, meetings with federal agencies and telecom companies were held in the past. Provincial authorities were also taken on board for the resolution of the matter.

The fraudulent practices using SMS services are a grave concern for BISP because it results in maligning the good name of the organization.

It must be reiterated that BISP was a transparent organization and it does not use SMS or mobile services to include people in the beneficiary list. Rather, beneficiaries are determined on the basis of PMT Survey and the communication is only carried out officially through regional offices.
