LAHORE - Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has said that dengue control activities would be continued during Eid holidays as uninterrupted dengue surveillance and larvae-ciding is utmost necessary for eradicating dengue.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of cabinet committee on dengue at Civil Secretariat on Thursday. Member Punjab Assembly Pir Ashraf Rasool, Kiran Dar besides DCO Lahore Muhammad Usman, Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr Salman Shahid, Additional Director General Health Vector borne diseases Dr. Islam Zafar, senior officers of all the concerned departments, Dean IPH Prof. Muaaz Ahmed, Prof. Waseem Akram, Dr. Somia Iqtidar, officers of WASA, PHA, Solid Waste Management, PITB, Special Branch, Police, Cantonment Board and Meteorological Department were present.

During briefing Dr Islam informed that the number of confirmed dengue patients of dengue patients has reached 134 in the province which include 36 from Lahore, 58 from Rawalpindi and 27 from Sheikhupura.

The DCO gave briefing regarding the steps taken by District Government. He informed that 22 cases were registered and three arrests made on violation of dengue regulations on October 1st. He further said that indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance activities are continuing at town and union council level in the whole province.

DCO further said that so far 773 cases have been registered while 295 persons arrested besides 34 places have been sealed upon detection of larva. He also presented action plan and duty roster regarding dengue control measures during Eid holidays.

The meeting was informed that Lahore, Rawalpindi and Sheikhupura districts are more sensitive with regard to dengue. Kh. Salman Rafiq directed officers of all the concerned departments to continue targeted outdoor and indoor dengue surveillance activities in the light of the action plan during Eid holydays. He said that he himself accompanied by DCO Lahore will also pay field visits for the encouragement of surveillance teams during Eid holydays.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the steps taken for checking of dengue and treatment of dengue patients in the hospitals.

Kh Salman appealed to the people to perform their responsibilities regarding controlling of dengue and eradication of hot spots and breeding sites of dengue in their houses.
