The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decision to stop implementation of Kissan Package was received with dismay by farming community.

Expressing his anger, President Kissan Welfare Council Maher Gulzar Advocate said that the government in response to demands and repeated protest by the famers for relief, announced Rs5,000 per acre to the extent of 12.5 acres as compensation, 2 percent deduction in rate of interest for rice and cotton growers and increment of production units from 2,000 to 4,000.

Faisal Ranjha, Qaiser Imran, Rahila Khanam, Sajid Nadim and Mazur Tarar were also present on this occasion. He said that local administration carried out and completed survey of the land under cultivation and when stage reached disbursement of relief amount, the ECP came down with heavy hand and stopped implementation of the package.

He said this decision of the ECP is against the interest of farmers who already are ignored by the rulers. He demanded setting aside the ECP decision and re-starting implementation of the package.

To a question, he said PTI Chief Imran Khan does not know woes of the famers.

“He (Imran) is only interested to get into power and with this purpose in view, the PTI chief had announced supporting traders over the issue of withholding tax sometimes back,” he regretted.

Maher Gulzar claimed that the announcement of Kissan Relief Package had upset the PTI chief and he started creating hurdle in its implementation under the plea that it was in violation of election rules.

He said farmers all over Punjab had condemned the PTI for opposing implementation of the Kissan package.

He demanded the implementation of the package immediately to ammeolarte the farmers.
