KARACHI - Boys outshined girls in the results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) Part-II Science Pre-Engineering Annual Examination-2008, declared by Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Tuesday. Boys secured all top five positions in the examination; Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences Gulistan-e-Johar procured first positions while rest positions from second to sixth acquired by Adamjee Government Science College. Muhammad Zeshan Jaffer S/O Jaffer Hadi, bearing Roll Number 571834 obtained first position with 90.09 per cent marks out of total 1100 marks, Muhammad Waqar Ahmed S/O Abdul Hameed, bearing Roll Number 563472 got second position with 89.45 percentage and Syed Muhammad Ahsan Umar S/O Syed Muhammad Umar, bearing Roll Number 563397 acquired third position with 88.72 percentage. On the other hand, Abdul Bari S/O Muhammad Ismail, bearing Roll Number 563021 secured fourth position with 88.45 percentage, Faizan Mustafa S/O Ghulam Mustafa, bearing Roll Number 563093 secured fifth position with 88.27 percentage while a female candidate Arham Shafiq D/O Shafiq-ur-Rehman got sixth position with 88.18 percentage in the examination. As per statistics of the results, a total of 564 candidates got A-One grade in the examinations, 1858 passed in A, 2719 in B Grade, 3100 in C Grade, 1352 in D grade and 20 candidates declared to be passed in E Grade. As many as 21,227 candidates, including 5,662 female and 15,565 male, got registered themselves in the examination out of which 20,961 (5,590 female, 15,371 male) appeared and 9,666 (2691 female, 6975 male) candidates declared to be passed with 46.11 pass percentage. Speaking at a ceremony held at the BIEK to honor the position holders, BIEK Chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said that the board has made an agreement with Edlink to get the officials of the examination department trained, as the BIEK is going to implement model papers in 2009 to enhance the standard of the examination system and worth of the students, being appeared in the examinations conducted by the BIEK. Several officials, including controller examination, deputy controllers, examiners and other officials will be trained in this regard. The new method would be comprised on three segments, including objective questions of 50 per cent, short answers of 20 per cent and detailed answers of 30 per cent, he said. He reiterated that the position holders, having percentage at least in seventies, would be given Rs 500 per month on account of the scholarships for two years. He said, "The board has setup inspection committee to inspect the colleges and higher secondary schools of the city which has produced 10 per cent and zero pass percentage in the pre-medical examination.
