LAHORE - The Racecourse police have deployed plain clothed policemen in and around the three banks after father of the victim, Rizwan Beig who was shot dead along with his bodyguard on The Mall near Governor House, expressed his doubt over the involvement of some officials of the bank in the incident. Three separate police teams constituted by the senior police officers Tuesday visited the banks where the deceased had withdrawn money from and questioned the bank officials. The police officers also took some recordings into custody of the close circuit cameras installed at the banks which the victims had visited. Superintendent Police Civil Lines Sohail Sukhera said that Rizwan's father Babar Beig Tuesday told the investigators that Rizwan had first visited the Allama Iqbal Town branch of Standard Charted Bank to deposit his cheque of Rs 15 million to draw cash but the bank management asked him to go to another bank at Bank Square. His son then went to the United Bank Limited situated at Bank Square from where he withdrew cash Rs 4.6m when an objection was raised on his cheque of Rs 15m. Babar expressed his doubt that some officials of Standard Charted Bank may be involved in the incident, the SP said. The SP Civil Lines said the police had taken into custody some recordings of the close circuit cameras installed at the banks. The police officials would examine the recordings to identify the suspected people and other visitors of the banks. It has been learnt reliably that the police teams have also taken into custody some friends of deceased Rizwan Beig, Ramzan Beig and injured person Tahir Butt to interrogate them. The police will also interrogate some relatives of the victim in this regard. Haider Ashraf, SP Investigation Civil Lines said that police teams were collecting information about the criminals who had used this technique to rob people in the past. He mad it clear that the robbers had taken away Rs 4.6 million in the robbery incident that took place on The Mall in front of a five star hotel. To a query, he said that condition of the injured was now out of danger and expressed his hope that police will soon arrest the criminals. A case has been registered on the complaint of Babar Beig.
