KARACHI - With a view to facilitate the general public and other stakeholders in obtaining fresh currency notes before Eid-ul-Fitr, the State Bank of Pakistan has decided that all its field offices and commercial banks' branches throughout the country will issue one packet each of Rs.5/ and Rs.10/ denominations fresh currency notes to one person from their counters once during the Holy month of Ramazan on production of original Computerized National Identity Card along with a copy of it. SBP field offices will start issuing these currency notes from 2nd Ramazan-ul-Mubarak while commercial banks' branches will issue fresh currency notes from 7th of Ramazan till the last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr (or until the stock ends). Commercial banks shall also provide fresh notes of other denominations to their account holders and clients as per their transactions and the stock position. State Bank has made arrangements for ensuring adequate supply of fresh notes to the commercial banks for use in ATMs for the convenience of general public. These steps of the State Bank of Pakistan will help eliminate the black marketing of fresh currency notes during the month of Ramazan and ensure availability of fresh notes to general public throughout the country. In any eventuality, SBP will be vigilant on checking malpractices and any evidence to this effect will be severely dealt with.
