LAHORE- The Secretary Food Punjab Rao Iftikhar Ahmed who has been transferred and posted as Director General Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), considered in a bureaucratic circle as a measure to appease flour millers, on Monday, is not likely to assume the charge of his new office. Sources in the Food Department have disclosed that the displaced Secretary is going on leave instead of joining his next assignment given by the Punjab government. Sources in the bureaucracy further revealed that Rao Iftikhar Ahmed has been transferred on the flour millers' insistence, annoyed with him for his strict handling of the flour crisis.   Sources informed that the former Food Secretary had applied for one-month leave, which is also perceived as a move on his part to quit the Punjab government. The bureaucratic circles are demoralised at the transfer of Secretary Food amid worst flour crisis, and termed it as a win of the flour millers. The Punjab government transferred Secretary Food a day after the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif held two hours long meeting with the flour millers who agreed to sell flour bags at the price fixed by the government. However, according to the Punjab government officials the transfer of Secretary Food is a routine matter. "It's a routine matter because it is up to the top provincial machinery to decide the postings and transfers in the larger public interest," an official of the Services and General Administration Department said, when contacted. The Secretary took strict action against 167 officials of his department and ordered disciplinary action against them on the charges of corruption and sealed a good number of flourmills involved in hoarding and profiteering during his posting as Secretary Food Punjab.   Meanwhile, the flour millers welcomed his transfer saying that the Secretary could not handle the flour crisis in the province.  A flour miller said that the Secretary failed to overcome flour shortage in the province and added fuel to the fire by recommending stringent action against the millers instead of reconciliation.
