LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that a comprehensive strategy should be adopted for the provision of essential items to the citizens at reasonable rates even after Ramzan-ul-Mubarik and a special committee should be constituted for this purpose. He said that Sasta atta, sugar and other consumer items are easily available to the citizens in Ramzan bazaars due to collective efforts of administration and elected representatives as well as effective monitoring system. He further directed that no effort should be spared for facilitating the people in Ramzan bazaars while setting up of separate stalls for aged persons, disabled and women should also be ensured at any cost. Taking strict notice of mismanagement and failure to set up separate stalls for women and elderly persons in Ramzan bazaar in Murree, the Chief Minister ordered immediate suspension of administrative and police officers of Murree. He was addressing a meeting regarding monitoring of Ramzan bazaars and prices and supply of essential commodities, here yesterday. Provincial Minister for Food, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Chief Secretary Punjab, Inspector General Police, Secretary Food, Commissioner Lahore and other officers concerned were present in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that billions of rupees are being spent on provision of relief to the people under Ramzan Package and a record subsidy has been given on atta. He said in addition to provision of quality essential items at fixed rates at Ramzan bazaars, sale of sugar at Rs. 47 per kg has also been ensured in open market. He directed that stern action should be taken against the elements engaged in overcharging of sugar. He said that government will adopt a comprehensive system for the provision of vegetables, fruits and other commodities to the people so that the process of providing relief to the masses should continue throughout the year. He further ordered setting up of a special committee headed by Chief Secretary in this regard which will submit its recommendations after Ramzan-ul-Mubarik. He said that in the light of the experiences of the ministers, secretaries and monitoring teams during their visits to Ramzan bazaars even better arrangements will be made for facilitating the people in next Ramzan-ul-Mubarik. He directed supply of sugar in one kg bags as well as 2.5 kg bags for the benefit of the people. He ordered immediate suspension of administrative and police officers of Murree for mismanagement and failure to provide proper facilities to the people in Ramzan bazaars. He announced financial assistance of Rs.3 lakh for the family of an aged person who had come for purchasing atta and died of heart attack in Murree. Earlier Chief Secretary gave details of supply of Sasta atta, sugar and other essential commodities. He informed the meeting that essentials items are easily available to the people at fixed rates due to regular visits of ministers, secretaries and monitoring teams to Ramzan bazaars. The meeting also expressed its satisfaction over the arrangements and supply of Sasta aata, sugar and other essential items to the people in Ramzan bazaars.
