'Macho-man' shows muscles

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan along with his men reportedly ransacked office of a federal government college, thrashed the staff and broke windowpanes over an admission issue of a student on Wednesday. The incident happened here at Federal Government College for Boys, F-10/4, when personal secretary (PS) to the MNA visited the college seeking admission for one Sadaqat Ali son of Nizakat Ali (form no 0281) who had, earlier, failed to meet the set criteria. Sharing details of the incident with TheNation, Principal of the college, Kazim Hussain, said the PS to the MNA had used to come to him for the admissions of students on political grounds and the admission committee had obliged him while remaining in its limits. He said in the present case, the PS wanted to get admitted a boy, who had passed the matriculation in third division, to the college and when the admission committee set certain conditions for admission including provision of a sports certificate and NOC from federal board, he got infuriated and had a verbal brawl with the head of the admission committee Prof Liaq Ali Khan. The Principal said that he had sanctioned the admission of the said boy when he fulfilled all the criteria and referred it to the concerned body of the college. However, the brawl erupted when the PS to the MNA abused the head of the admission committee. When the matter was brought into the notice of MNA Anjum Aqeel, he took it as his insult and himself came to the college. Aqeel abused the head of admission committee and other college staff and ransacked the college building with his men, Kazim Hussain added. He said that police were called to bring the things under control. The Principal further said that college administration had lodged a complaint on behalf of Prof Liaq Ali Khan with Shalimar Police Station against the MNA and his associates. On the other hand, MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan while addressing a press conference brushed aside all allegations of manhandling. He said he was present at F/10 when the incident occurred and was informed there. When I reached there, I saw one person Asim Rana who had been injured by the college official, the MNA said. The said college is situated in my constituency and being an MNA, it is my right to approach college administration in order to help poor students of the area get admission, as they are already facing shortage of colleges, he said. He said he did not thrash anyone and demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.
