ISLAMABAD - Former presidential candidate Dr Anwarul Haq Wednesday filed a criminal petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan praying for punishing former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for direct contempt of court. PML-N Senator Zafar Ali Shah also re-filed his petition for trying Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution. Earlier, the Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan, had assigned two objections to his petition saying that the Supreme Court was not the proper forum to take up the case and that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party. Zafar Ali Shah said that he had removed both the objections. Dr Anwar filed the petition under Article 204 of the Constitution making General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf respondent in the petition. The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the federal government to initiate proceedings of high treason against the former dictator under Article 6 of the Constitution in the light of the July 31,2009 judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Musharraf committed horrible contempt of court on November 3, 2007 by imposing emergency despite the interim orders of the 7-member bench of the Supreme Court on the same day, the petition reads. It was a direct criminal rather state terrorist contempt with full abuse and force of state machinery and power, the petition further stated. The petitioner also prayed to the court that all damages accrued to the national exchequer as a result of Musharrafs acts, should be recovered from his personal property. He also prayed that Musharraf should be brought home through Interpol.
