PESHAWAR (APP) - Corps Commander Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik has said that maximum part of Mohmand Agency has been cleared from militants and terrorists after a successful military operation, restoring the writ of the government in the region. Briefing mediamen at Mamodgut in Mohmand Agency, Gen Malik said that army had reclaimed 80 to 85 per cent area of Mohmand Agency following successful military operation 'Brekna (lightening) in which 72 soldiers, including three officers, embraced martyrdom and around 150 injured. The Corps Commander said that major operation in Mohmand Agency had been completed and now only search and cordon operation was being conducted in a few pockets. The back of militants and terrorists has been broken in Mohmand Agency and the writ of government established, he added. He said Internally Displaced People (IDPs) belonging to Mohmand Agency had returned to their areas and were living safely. A large number of IDPs belonging to tribal region have returned to their houses and the rest will come back soon, he added. The repatriation of IDPs of Sooran Darra would start soon . Development work has already been started in secured areas and damaged infrastructure will be rebuilt on scientific lines and modern standards, he said. Official sources said that since 9/11, about 3000 Pakistani soldiers had been martyred and around 8000 injured in the fight against terrorism. The sacrifices of Pakistani troops had been recognised globally. Earlier, the Corps Commander was received by Inspector General Frontier Corps, IGFC, Maj Gen Nadir Zaib on arriving at Mohmand Agency and was briefed about overall security situation in the area and operational preparedness. The Corps Commander spent Eid with troops in Mohmand Agency and Bajaur Agency and congratulated them on this auspicious occasion. The Corps Commander also visited different locations and appreciated the high morale of troops. He said the whole nation held sacrifices of soldiers in high esteem. The troops on this occasion said they would sacrifice everything for protection and defence of motherland. Meanwhile, Pak Army celebrated Eidul Fitr with great enthusiasm and national spirit in cantonments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
