OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has suspended four Iqbal Town police officers, including an SI, for torturing to death a 22-year-old youth from Pattoki. According to the case details, SI Asghar, ASI Ijaz Kabeer and constables Allah Yar and Abid had arrested two accused, namely Mubashir Ali and Nadeem, from Pattoki a few days back and shifted them to a private torture cell in the City. The accused were subjected to severe torture in order to ooze out confession from them, insiders said on Friday. The added the Mubashir fell unconscious and was shifted to a private hospital where the doctors pronounced him as dead. The police, however, claimed that he died because of a cardiac arrest. Meanwhile, one Muhammad Arshad along with dozens of his relatives and neighbourers staged a protest demonstration against the police concerned. After the demo, the DIG Operations suspended the guilty cops. A case has also been lodged against them. The suspended cops, on the other hand, have claimed that the deceased was a history-sheeter and was sought in dozens of felony acts. The Iqbal Town SP, however, said that the cops would be imprisoned if found involved in the killing of the accused.
