LAHORE – A six-member Australian parliamentary delegation paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Sunday and held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and senior faculty members.
The purpose of the meeting was to review strengthening of dairy value chains in Pakistan through improved farm management practices and more effective extension services, as well as expanding such projects across the country.
The delegation comprised Senators Sean Edwards and David Johnston; Members Parliament Nick Champion, Graham Perrett and Jill Hall; Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Peter Hayward; and Sussan Hayward. Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department Secretary Irfan Elahi was also present on the occasion.
The UVAS vice chancellor briefed the delegation about the academic, research and extension programmes of the university, as well as its role in the development of livestock, fisheries, wildlife and other related sectors.
He said the foundations of the university were laid as a veterinary school about 130 years ago and it had now become the leading university in the field of veterinary and animal sciences in the region.
He especially mentioned the 24/7 Extension Services of the university that is aimed at providing clinical services to the farmers on their doorstep round-the-clock.
The Australian delegation also discussed with the UVAS vice chancellor the prospects of development of the livestock sector under the Australian-funded Agriculture Sector Linkages Programme for the uplift of farmers.
They lauded the role and efforts of the university in the development of the livestock sector in the country.
Later, the Australian delegation also visited the Badshahi Mosque and Mazar-e-Iqbal.
ADMISSIONS SCHEDULE: The Punjab University Examinations Department has issued the schedule of admissions fee and forms for MEd (General and Science) Supplementary Examination 2011 and Annual Examination, 2012, which will commence from September 26.
According to details, the date of submission of admission forms and fee for MEd (General and Science) Supplementary Examination 2011 and Annual Examination, 2012, is September 10 with single fee and September 10 with late fee.
