Cleanliness stressed to fight dengue

BAHAWALPUR - A number of seminars, meetings, walks and rallies were organised to raise awareness against dengue virus and prepare the public to fight the menace.
Educational institutions including the Islamia University Bahawalpur, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, all 3 Govt Girls College, Govt SD High School, Govt Abbasia Higher Secondary School and other government institutions, Special Education Centre, the Health and Social Welfare departments and TMA arranged special functions to mark anti-dengue day.
Special literature, posters and leaflets were distributed among the participants.
On the occasion, speakers underlined the need for improving sanitation and adopt preventive measures to eliminate the disease.
IUB Senior Medical Officer Dr Muhammad Usman Cheema in his address at a seminar informed the audience about the symptoms and preventive measures against dengue virus. He said that cleanliness and healthy environment were the best way to curb the virus as currently this virus had been affecting 50 to 100 million people around 110 countries of the world.
The Health Department, QMC and BVH officials informed that a 60 bed ward had been reserved at Bahawal Victoria Hospital for dengue patients. Meanwhile, MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali at a seminar held at TMA, assured that all out efforts would be made to control and eliminate dengue virus.
