ISLAMABAD - Asian Cricket Council (ACC) nominated Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf as chairman Asian Cricket Council Development Committee in its recent meeting.

Although some circles are welcoming this move and appreciated the ACC but the matter of the fact is that keeping in mind the good work done by Zaka Ashraf in such a short span of time, he deserved to be made the ACC chairman instead of naming him as Development Committee chairman as this slot should have be given to some ACC associate member.

Former PCB chairman Lt Gen (retd) Tauqeer Zia was the last person from Pakistan who headed the ACC, but as far as contribution of Zaka towards the game is concerned, he was the most suitable person for the ACC chairman slot. It was because of his day and night efforts which resulted in bridging the gap between two arch-rivals Pakistan and India and finally, both agreed to play a bilateral series after a long time.

Zaka remained instrumental since he took the charge of the cricket board and strived hard in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan. He was almost successful in doing so if Bangladesh High Court didn't stop their cricket team to travel to Pakistan.

The ACC should keep in mind the sacrifices of Pakistan among the Asian countries. Pakistan’s struggles regarding the development of the game across the Asia are highly commendable. So in recognition of his great services to the game, Zaka should have been made ACC chairman.

Pakistan had already done a lot regarding the development of cricket in the ACC associate member countries and after not considering Pakistan for even this post in 2011, by appointing Zaka as ACC development committee chairman, gave the impression they have done enough.

Meanwhile, without wasting anytime, the PCB chief acted swiftly and immediately convened a meeting of the development committee in Pakistan this month which would help showcase Pakistan's soft image to the entire world.
