Abbasi, others to be indicted on 9th in ephedrine case

RAWALPINDI - The court of narcotics substance control (CNSC) on Tuesday distributed copies of challan among the eight accused, including PML-N stalwart and former MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, of ephedrine smuggling case.
The court set the date of September 9, 2014 to indict the accused in controlled chemical allocation quota case.
CNSC Special Judge Akhter Bahadur took up the case and ordered to provide copies of challan to eight accused who were present in the courtroom.
The court rejected acquittal plea of PML-N stalwart Hanif Abbasi.
During the hearing, Advocate Sardar Muhammad Ishaq appeared on behalf of Abbasi while Shahid Mehmood Abbasi represented anti-narcotics force (ANF) as special public prosecutor.
Arguing before the court, Ishaq said that his client was innocent and ANF roped him in the ephedrine smuggling case just to victimise him politically. He added that the ANF has no substantial evidences against his client; therefore, the court may grant bail to his client in ephedrine quota case.
Shahid Mehmood Abbasi opposed the defence lawyer saying that ANF has solid proofs against the accused which showed his clear involvement in controlled chemical quota case. He added that ANF has 40 witnesses while the accused have been using delaying tactics to avoid trial.
He asked the court to cancel the bail petition of the accused.
