15-day celebration for disabled starts

LAHORE (PPI) - Special Education and Training Center (SETC) has completed 30 years of serving the disabled children. The SETC will observe a fortnight of celebrations 30 years of services in order to highlight its achievements. The institution was established in 1981 by renowned psychiatrist and Prof Emeritus of King Edward Medical University Khalida Tareen with the collaboration of professionals. Prof Khalida Tareen said that currently 180 disabled and 475 normal children are studying. She said it was first institution where the experiment of inclusive education for normal and disabled children has been conducted successfully. On the inaugural ceremony President National Society for Mentally and Emotionally Handicapped Dr Pervez Hassan graced the occasion as chief guest, while members board of governors MMK Ansari, Prof IAK Tareen, Principal Zarina Farrukh and large number of parents and teachers attended the event. Prof Khalida Tareen during her address said that SETC was providing training for woodwork, carpentry, cloth weaving, block printing, leather work and other arts and crafts. Dr Pervez Hassan said that SETC students have ability to progress in every filed of life and he also praised the hard work of teachers. Prof IAK Tareen said that during the fortnight celebrations sports, debating, poetry, quiz competition, Naat Khawani, drawing and painting competitions would be organised.
