KARACHI (Agencies) - The World Badminton Federation has suspended the membership of Pakistan over an ongoing row between parallel national bodies claiming to be the true representatives of the sport in the country. In a letter sent by the chief executive of the world body, Thomas Lund, the order says the suspension means that Pakistan cannot send any player to any international event till the restoration of the membership. The letter also said that the world body had withdrawn permission to the Pakistan Badminton Federation to host a international challenge tournament from May 11 to 15 because of the suspension. "The PBF cannot also not attend the annual general meeting of the WBF," the letter said. Pakistan badminton has been in a crisis since last year with two powerful personalities claiming to head the national federation. Aamir Hayat Rokri and a former federal minister, Nazar Mohammad Gondal have laid claim to being President of the Pakistan Badminton Federation and this has led to many problems even on the national circuits and former players wanting to go abroad for international events. "It is a very difficult situation for the players because they don't know what route to pursue or who to listen," national women's champion, Palwasha Bashir said. The world body has now asked both groups to provide documentary evidence to confirm who meets the requirements of under the WBF constitution to head the Pakistan Badminton Federation. Thomas Lund also said that the world body was in touch with the Pakistan Olympic Association to verify the credentials of both groups.
