LAHORE The Chaudhrys of Gujrat and the Warraich family have agreed to surrender Rs 320 million to the Federal Investigations Agency (FIA) as the investigators are grilling Moonis Elahi, the son of former chief minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi, in connection with the NICL mega corruption scam. In order to avoid political damage, sources said the PML-Q leadership would pay the amount to the Warraich family and the later would pay it to the FIA. The FIA will most probably submit its report before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on April 14. Sources also said that the authorities have also traced three bank accounts of Moonis Elahi through which the transactions of millions of rupees were carried out. Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader and MPA Moonis Elahi was one of the main accused in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam and FIA arrested him after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected his interim bail. A few days earlier, Additional DG FIA Zafar Qureshi told the LHC that the agency had to recover Rs 320 million from Moonis Elahi in the NICL case. FIA Lahore had registered two cases in the scam and arrested 12 people, including former NICL chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi and former minister Habibullah Warraich, under sections 409, 420, 468, 471, 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947. Three other main accused - Mohsin Habib Warraich, Amin Qasim Dada and Javed Syed - are still at large.
