Railways Minister Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour has said that railway fares would not be enhanced despite significant increase in diesel prices. In an interview with a private TV channel on Monday, the Minister said Railways was facing huge losses but as the fares were recently increased, therefore it has been decided not to put additional burden on the traveling public. He said Pakistan railways had requested the Federal Government for the provision of a grant of RS 11.1 billion and a detailed briefing was given to the Cabinet in support of the demand in order to run the Railways on sound footings. However he regretted that despite promise by the Cabinet that the amount would be released with in a week, they are still waiting for the release of the required money.
