Pakistan will never forget the night of 4th April of 1979, which is the darkest, gloomy and black spot on the democratic history of Pakistan. What a great irony of this country could be that the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of Pakistan was hanged by military dictator and in this conspiracy the Apex Judiciary played the vital role.
It has been bad luck for the country that Apex Court has always supported the back door power players in country and those behind the scene power players have always sucked the blood of the downtrodden people. Before the emergence of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the political horizons of Pakistan, poor people were not aware of their social, civil, political and economical rights and were at the mercy of their masters who always maneuvered the power among themselves with the backing of de facto power of ruling junta i.e. military.
But the period from 1971 to 1977, Pakistan witnessed popular politics, saw the real faces of power players and politics was brought into the streets, otherwise it was piece of decoration of drawing room and drawing room politics was the order of the day and very few families counted on fingers used to rule the country with their non-democratic methods and the ordinary people were totally unaware of their share in power and politics.
From the very scratch of the country, the democracy has been nipped in the bud. After the death of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of nation, first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in Rawalpindi and his assassination is still mystery in history of country.
Later on, the reins of power remained directly and indirectly in the hands of military and civil bureaucracy, who did not know the sorrows and plight of the people and this Junta for its self-vested interests ruled the country and the result of the ruling of this junta was the breakup of East Pakistan. Thus during this time, if any politician, who dared to challenge the writ of non-democratic forces to rule the country, he was put behind the bars and complicated into the false cases and later he was disqualified from the politics under the various draconian laws, specially made to defame and ban the politicians of the country. And this ruling junta from the beginning has tried its best to give the impression to the masses that the politicians are the most inefficient people and hence they are not capable to rule the country and whoever has been in line with this ruling junta, he has been leveled as a patriotic and real son of the soil.
ZAB entered into the politics and for time being he remained in line with the ruling Junta, but after Tashkent Declaration of 1965, he deserted the ruling junta and created his own party under name of Pakistan People’s Party. ZAB went to the masses of Pakistan in each and every corner from Khyber to Karachi and during his visits, he was attacked by those anti-democratic forces because they were very well conversant with the fact that if Bhutto came into power, it means the people will come into power and the chapter of drawing room politics will be closed for good. In their efforts, they did not get success, rather their anti people policies compelled them to hand over the reigns of country to ZAB after the war of 1971 with India, in which the country was torn up and the remaining West Pakistan, was also in the worst and dilapidated condition and ZAB became the necessity of ruling junta, who could save and pile up the remaining pieces of the country.
East Pakistan emerged as an independent state in the name of Bangladesh and anti-state elements with their nefarious designs were still engaged to destabilise the remaining part of the country West Pakistan, but it was ZAB, who with his visionary, energetic, driving, charismatic leadership qualities saved and integrated the remaining Pakistan and soon Pakistan emerged as a respectable country in the comity of nations in the world.
After independence, India framed the constitution soon, but in Pakistan, the constitution was not framed till 1973, rather ad hoc constitutions and LFO were imposed upon the people, so the reigns of power of country always remains in the hands of non-democratic and anti people elements.
The constitution of 1973 is the landslide achievement of ZAB, which was unanimously passed with the consensus of all political parties available in the parliament.
ZAB got released 93 thousands prisoners of war held by India during the war of 1971 and settled border dispute with china and raised the morale of defeated military and nation high, built up confidence among them. The new technology and industry was set up in country, administrative, labour and agriculture reforms were introduced and the defence of the country was made impeccable and due to his efforts Pakistan entered in the club of nations having atomic power.
ZAB created the awareness about the social, civil, economical and political rights among the masses and stabilised the country uniting four provinces.
In the domain of foreign policy, ZAB established the steady and time tested friendly relations with china, brought Russia close to Pakistan and Pakistan Steal Mill is the gift of Pakistan Russian friendship as well as improved relations with the neighbouring states.
Regarding to relations with Islamic countries, Bhutto held Islamic Summit  at Lahore, which was attended by all the heads of various Islamic countries around the world including Yaser Arfat leader of the then  PLO. ZAB wanted to make Islamic block regarding to uplift of the Muslim countries and due to his such revolutionary vision and polices aiming the betterment and welfare of the downtrodden people across the third world countries, he was regarded as the symbol of prosperity.
As ZAB was symbolised the beckon of light among the disappointed people, who never lost their hope of their bright future in Bhutto and the same situation is prevalent in the country till now.
ZAB devoted his life to the people and democracy and it was proved that as People were Bhutto and Bhutto was people, such a unique relation, ZAB established with his nation. His such enthusiasm and spirit for the people of country was a thorn in the eyes of anti-democratic forces and soon as Pakistan stood on its feet owing to his revolutionary polices, those anti-people and anti-democratic forces stabbed him in his back and finally he was sent to gallows. Though physically ZAB is not with us, but his role in politics of Pakistan was and is still dominant in country politics and till today he rules the hearts of nation from his grave.
Meanwhile, his bitter political opponents have tried their best to eradicate the roots of Bhutto and Bhuttoism from the soil, though physically they have got success, but spiritually they have failed and ZAB is still alive in the hearts of people. Not only this, rather those anti people elements martyred his son Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his brave and courageous daughter Benazir Bhutto, who remained two times prime minister of Pakistan.
At now Bhutto has now become vision, mission, ideology and philosophy and it is an acknowledged fact that ideas never die and ZAB and his family will live alive among the hearts of nation for good.
After Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, ZAB is the one and only leader, who is mostly studied and a great deal of books have been written about ZAB by local and well as foreigner intellectuals, which is also the living proof of his charismatic leadership and personality as well as his living in the hearts of the people.
I feel pleasure to say that Bhutto is Pakistan and Pakistan is Bhutto, because Pakistan has merged into the veins of Bhutto family and veins are essential for the survival of any physical body or existence.
Thus 4th April reminds us to sacrifice everything for the sake of democracy and people and teachers us that never knee down before any dictator and we the workers of party on this day vow that we will keep continue the struggle for the fulfilment of vision and mission of ZAB and SBB, who have gone immortal by rendering their lives for the sake of disappointed, disenchanted and downtrodden people of Pakistan.
