Drug testing laboratory to ascertain quality





LAHORE – A state-of-the-art drug testing laboratory is being constructed in the Sundar Estate which will be completed by June this year, said Special Assistant to the CM for Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association at the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Khawaja Salman Rafique told the PPMA delegation led by its President Amjad Ali Jawa that the laboratory would provide best facilities for quality analysis of locally manufactured medicines. Secretary Health Punjab Captain (R) Arif Nadeem and senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
Salman Rafique said that the Chief Minister had provided a piece of land for the drug testing laboratory besides funds worth of Rs50 million for the purpose. He added that the CM was determined to provide best quality medicines to the people of Punjab and he had directed to establish the laboratory at the earliest. He further said that this drug testing laboratory would be an autonomous institution which would run by a third party so that the transparency and merit could be maintained in analysing the drugs.
On this occasion, the PPMA delegation also apprised the Special Assistant to CM and Secretary Health about the problems being faced by the pharmaceutical industry.
Secretary Health assured them for the early solution of their problems.
