RAWALPINDI - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday narrowly escaped a disaster when his special plane made an emergency landing at Chaklala Airbase shortly after taking off owing to some technical fault in the engine.

The prime minister was due to visit Sukkur in his special plane while Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and other important personalities were also accompanying him; however, all of them remained unhurt.

Soon after the incident, an emergency was declared at the airbase while all the passengers were shifted to a safe place. Gilani along with his companions was on board a KASA Company aeroplane to visit Sukkur, which left the Chaklala Airbase at 3:10pm.

But, the pilot informed the control tower just after ten minutes after taking off that there was some technical fault in the engine, as redirected the plane towards runway and made an emergency landing.

Later, Gilani and his team flew for Sukkur in another aircraft.
