Islamabad: Death toll from rain-related incidents has risen to 71, state media quoting PDMA, KP reported today.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the death toll in the rain-related incidents has increased to 47.

A spokesman of PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that 14 people have died in Shangla, 12 in Kohistan and 8 in Swat.

Two persons each died in Bannu, Battagram, Chitral, Mardan and Upper Dir.

One person each died in Charsadda, Malakand and Mansehra.

141 houses have been destroyed due to heavy rains. The torrential rain caused serious losses to orchards and other standing crops.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed to take necessary steps for the rehabilitation of the rain-affected people.

Reports of land sliding have been received from Neelam Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Eight persons of the same family were killed in Sharda when their house collapsed due to land sliding.

Another four persons were killed and three injured in Jichen area of Chilas in Gilgit-Baltistan when the roof of their house collapsed. 

The communication link has been disconnected due to torrential rain in Gilgit Baltistan.

Heavy land sliding has damaged Karakorum Highway between Gilgit and Chilas.

In Ghizer, eight residential houses have been collapsed due to landslides in Sherqila village.

Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez Ur Rehman has announced holiday in educational institutions in all districts of the area tomorrow.

The holiday has been announced in wake of likely torrential rains.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain has expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of lives and property in torrential rains and land sliding in the country.

In a statement, he extended sympathy with the affected families and directed the concerned authorities to leave no stone unturned in helping the affected people.

The president also directed to open blocked roads as soon as possible in the result of land sliding.
