LAHORE - Former NPT chairman and The Nation editor-in-chief Dr Majid Nizami’s 88th birth anniversary celebrated at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan yesterday.

Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust chairman Rafique Tarar, on occasion, said late Nizami was a staunch believer in the exalted teachings of the Quaid-e-Azam Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal which reflected the teachings of Islam.

“Majid Nizami yearned to see Pakistan grow into a modern, Islamic, democratic and welfare state in consonance with their transcendental vision,” he said at a special ceremony held on “Majid Nizami Day” organised by the NPT and Pakistan Movement Workers Trust.

The attendees included NPT Vice Chairman Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Justice (r) Mian Aftab Farrukh, Mian Farooq Altaf, Ch Naeem Hussain Chattha, Pir Ejaz Ahmad Hashmi, Mian Hahib Ullah, Malik Ghulam Rabbani Awan, Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Sahibzada Mian Walid Ahmad Jawad Sharqpuri, Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami, Col (r) Ikram Ullah Khan, Qayyum Nizami, Allama Ch Ashghar Ali Kausar Waraich, Dr Parveen Khan, Begum Safia Ishaq, Muhammad Asif Bhalli, Haseeb Pasha, Engr Muhammad Tufail Malik, MK Anwar Baghdadi, Mirza Ahsan, Maj (r) Siddique Rehan, Razia Akhtar, Fauzia Cheema, Nawab Barkaat Mehmood, Dr. Yaqub Zia, Syed Ali Bukhari, Naila Umar, Shiraz Bhatti Advocate and a large number of people from different walks of life. Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Secretary Shahid Rasheed conducted the proceedings of the ceremony.

Tarar further observed that Dr Majid Nizami transformed the Nawa-i-Waqt into a veritable empire through which he successfully defended the geographical and ideological frontiers of the dear homeland. He concluded by praying for peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Dr Rafique observed that Dr Nizami brought into being institutions like the Aiwan-i-Iqbal and the Aiwan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, was a founding trustee of the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and promoted the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust in an exemplary fashion. Now the team selected by him is taking his noble mission forward in an admirable way. His ideas are so relevant to the present times. He wanted to prove that the Islamic ideas, if sincerely put into practice, could attract the attention of the countries the world over. Just like the Quaid-i-Azam, he rejected all the isms in favour of Islam.

Mian Farooq Altaf observed that he had never seen a more straightforward, true and daring person in his life. Thanks to his endeavours, the ideology of Pakistan is resounding nationwide. He taught us how to speak the truth, whatever the situation.

Mian Aftab Farrukh observed that Dr. Nizami always said that peace would only prevail after the just resolution of the Kashmir issue by holding a plebiscite in accordance with the UN resolutions. Ajmal Niazi observed that he had always regarded Dr. Majid Nizami as his spiritual guide.

Asif Bhalli observed that Dr Majid Nizami’s real family was the staff of the daily Nawa-i-Waqt and the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust. Naeem Chattha observed that the void created by Dr. Majid Nizami’s demise cannot be filled.

Pir Ejaz Hashmi observed that Dr Majid Nizami devoted his life to highlighting the two-nation theory.

Walid Sharqpuri observed that Dr Majid Nizami averred what was true even in the face of dictators.

Qayyum Nizami observed that Dr Majid Nizami was a warrior journalist who was committed to enforcement of Islamic principles, the ideology of Pakistan & resolution of the Kashmir issue. He exerted a constructive pressure on the media.

Dr Ashraf Nizami, Allama Asghar Ali Kausar Waraich, Malik Ghulam Rabbani Awan, Col (r) Ikram Ullah, Prof. Dr Parveen Khan, Mian Habib Ullah, Begum Safia Ishaq and Shahid Rasheed also spoke on occasion and paid rich tributes to Majid Nizami services.
