Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector and head coach Mohsin Hassan Khan refused to accept chief selector role in the PCB and insisted PCB Chairman Shahryar M Khan to consider him in coaching role once again.

Mohsin while talking to The Nation on Sunday confirmed that he had a very detailed meeting with the PCB chief and his services for national team was lauded by the chairman and he was very surprised that despite such wonderful track record under Mohsin, why he was removed as head coach.

“I am very grateful to Shahryar Khan for sparing his precious time and meeting me. I appreciate his gesture and hold him in very high esteem, but I made him very clear that I am not interested in chief selector role, rather I am more determined and willing to accept head coach role, as it is like a challenge to me. I want to prove the world that I can transform the fortunes of the national team in a very short span of time. I had worked with almost same players in the past and made them a force to reckon with. During my coaching Pakistan cricket team beat the then number one Test team England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and we were on a high. The moral of the players was sky high and they were hungry for more, but all of a sudden in the past three years or so, same players are nowhere near where I had left them.”

Mohsin said team was in poor state of affairs and this was the time to lift their morals, inject new lease of life in players and show the world, Pakistani players had what it takes to excel at the top.

Only proper planning, combined efforts and all winning mentality is required to transform the losing unit into world beaters, he said and added had action been taken much earlier, today situation could have been far different.

“I don’t know why I was removed from the job, when I had done so much for the team and the country. I had never ever thought about personal interests. I had always put country way ahead. I had accepted national team coaching just to show how much I believe in the players. It’s not long ago when national team was facing similar situation, boys’ were on a low, I accepted the challenge and by the grace of Allah, I managed to give more than desired results and same players performed exceptionally well.”

He said he could have accepted chief selector role but it makes no sense, as a selector he would select players and hand over to coaching staff, but he is not sure whether they would be able to get the best out of them. “I could also accept the role of team director or be with team as mentor, but I want to coach, as I know I can deliver goods for the team and country.”

When asked about Waqar Younis allegations regarding he was not allowed to work freely and leakage of report he had submitted with PCB chairman, Mohsin replied why Waqar then waited for two years if the situation was so.

“If I was not allowed work freely, I would have not wasted a single day and tendered my resignation. The report should not have been leaked, but it is administrative issue and I don’t want to comment on that. I am hopeful PCB chief would investigate the matter and culprits would get due punishment.”
