CEC directs Interior Secy to deploy Rangers for by-polls

ISLAMABAD Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Hamid Ali Mirza on Tuesday directed the Secretary of Interior for deployment of Rangers at all the polling stations where by-elections are going to be held on August 5 and 25 for a period of three days i-e before, during and after the polling, in addition to patrolling duties in aid of civil power for maintaining law & order. He also directed the Secretary that the deployment of troops of Rangers be decided in accordance with the apprehension of threat and deployment of FC may be considered, where necessary. Furthermore, security should be provided to all contesting candidates till the completion of the polls of bye-elections in their constituencies to avoid any untoward incident. Regarding the security arrangements, the Chief Election Commissioner directed the Punjab Chief Secretary for adopting strict measures by providing security to all the contesting candidates. Furthermore, the DCOs of respective districts have been advised to ensure that apart from the Polling Agents of contesting candidates and the voters required to cast their votes at the respective polling stations, no other unauthorized person be allowed to enter in the premises of polling stations. The names and phone numbers of all law enforcement personnel deployed at each polling station be communicated to the respective Returning Officers and Presiding Officers so that they could seek their assistance to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of polls. The CEC further directed that all executive authorities in their jurisdictions will assist the Election Commission of Pakistan in conducting the bye-elections in a peaceful, transparent, fair and orderly manner.
