KARACHI Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee has accused ANP of practising double standards; one for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where it supports military action against the militants and the other for Karachi where it is in hand in glove with the militants, land mafia, drugs and arms traffickers. These allegations were levelled by Deputy Convenor MQM Rabita Committee Anis Ahmed Kaim Khani while addressing a Press conference at party headquarters on Tuesday. Kaim alleged that ANP which rules Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was openly backing military action to deal with Taliban and other militancy, but in Karachi it was working on ethnic lines besides providing shelters and patronising elements who have fled from areas under military operation. The Press conference was held shortly after the burial of MQM MPA Raza Haider who was gunned down along with his bodyguards in Jamia Masjid on Monday afternoon in Nazimabad where he had gone to offer fateha. The MQM, he said, was being punished for raising voice against the presence of militants, drugs and arms traffickers and land grabbers in Karchi. He said the MQM leadership is drawing the attention of the government about the presence of Taliban and other militants in the City and had pleaded for action against them but their concern was not addressed. He urged upon the government to take practical steps against the land mafia, drug mafia and outlawed organisations. Talking about the statement of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik that outlawed terrorist organisations were involved in the killing of MQM MPA Raza Haider, MQM top stalwart questioned that why has the government not taken any action against the terrorists if they knew about their heinous plans?. He demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to conduct the high-level inquiry of Raza Haiders killing. According to him, we never bowed down to injustice in the past and we would do so in future as well. Commenting on the killing of over 45 people in Karachi, he said that elements who wanted to destroy the peace of Karachi were involved in the killing of these people. He appealed to the party workers to observe three-day mourning of Raza Haider through peaceful manner by holding congregations of Quran Khwani and foil the conspiracy to destroy the peace of Karachi. MQM Rabita Committee London member Anees Advocate, Nasreen Jalil, former City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, Kanwar Khalid Younis, Waseem Aftab, Raza Haroon and others were present on the occasion. Online adds: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani telephoned MQM Chief Altaf Hussain on Tuesday, and both the leaders emphasised the need for maintaining peace in Karachi. Moreover, they agreed that at this juncture, the whole nation should remain united to confront the challenges faced by the country. They also urged the people to foil miscreants nefarious designs of disrupting the peace and creating division in the society. The Prime Minister also spoke to Qazi Hussain Ahmed, leader of Jamat-i-Islami and exchanged views on Karachi situation. Qazi extended complete support to help restore peace in the City. Both the leaders agreed that short-term and long-term measures were needed to maintain law and order situation in Sindh especially in the urban areas.
