ISLAMABAD National Security Committee of the Parliament has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide the full text of US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates statement enabling it to voice any reaction after going through it. The committee met here on Tuesday with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair. Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence gave detailed briefing to the members regarding the implementation on the recommendations of the committee pertaining to the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry of Defence was also asked to file by tomorrow the written response on the matter of implementation of the committees recommendations and the reasons as to why some of these recommendations were not put into practice. Foreign Minister Qureshi would brief the Committee on foreign affairs and the prevailing regional security situation today as the Ministry of Defence has completed its briefing. Talking to media after the committees meeting, Rabba-ni said that it was the consensus view of the committee members that the written reply on the implementation of recommendations would also be sought from the Ministry of Defence as well and they were asked to furnish a detailed report on it by August 5. The issue of recent spate of target killings in Karachi also came up for discussion in the meeting and the committee also condemned the killing of MQM MPA Raza Haider and demanded swift action against the culprits. The members also appealed to the people of Karachi to display restraint and remain peaceful. This was target killing and it was very difficult to contain ones sentiments on such occasions, he remarked.
