ISLAMABAD Rizwan Khurshid scored 37 points to lead Islamabad Falcons to the semi-finals of the 4th Capital Cup Basketball Championship here at the Sector I-8 Basketball Courts. Falcons, the most consistent club of the capital, outplayed Islamabad Bulls 100-60 while Rust overcame Eagles 40-30, as the first quarter of the match between Islamabad Falcons and Islamabad Bulls turned out to be a keenly fought affair with the eventual winners leading 19-14 at the end of the first 10 minutes. Islamabad Falcons put their foot on the accelerator in the next quarter to overwhelm their opponents. They had a brilliant 10 minutes of play in which they piled the points at will. Falcons amassed 40 points in the second quarter while Bulls could manage just 12. The winners were leading 59-26 at the halfway stage. Rizwan Khurshid was on top of his game, availing most of his scoring opportunities to end up with 37 points. Uzair Ahmed contributed 14 points while Faran Khan helped with 13. Faran Bashir was Islamabad Bulls best player with 15 points. Asad Khan (11) and Bakhtawar Taimoor (7) also had a good game. Rust seemed keen in their victory against Eagles in the second quarter-final of the day. After both teams shared the honours in the first quarter with eight points each, Rust started playing a little better to outscore their opponents 15-7 in the next 10 minutes. Eagles played positively after the break, scoring 10 points and restricting Rust to just 6. They managed to cut the deficit by four points but Rust again got their act together and did not allow Eagles to bounce back into the match. Nafees Shahzad was the highest scorer for Rust with a contribution of 23 points while Mudassir Nazar added 10.
