Islamabad - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday issued notices to the ministry of defence in the petition of a woman who has approached the court challenging the prolonged detention of her husband Muhammad Zakir who is a sepoy in Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq conducted the hearing of the petition and directed the ministry to come up its comments on August 7 and deferred the proceedings till then. The court issued these directions on a petition moved by Saeeda Akhtar for recovery of her husband.

She cited Federation of Pakistan through Secretary Defense, Chief of Air Staff, Provost Martial Pakistan Air Force and two others as respondents in her petition.

She has prayed to the court that the prolonged detention of her husband and the manner of the said detention both be declared illegal and in contravention of Defense Service Laws and Rules made there under, he may be produced before this august court and be set at liberty forthwith as hither to fore.

She also requested that the respondents be directed to release the pay and allowance of the petitioner’s husband forthwith.
