In the past seasons, however, Rooney has not been upto his high standards, primarily because he didn't play as a striker back then. But now, under Van Gaal, Rooney will play as a sole striker, a position tailor-made for a man of his class and skill. The Englishman's form will be very crucial for Manchester United. If Rooney gets back to his ruthless best, getting help from Midfielders like Depay, Mata and Young, the United faithful can expect him to net at least 20 goals and possibly help Manchester United win another title.

• Morgan Schneiderlin:

The Frenchman is one of the most promising and skillful Central Midfielders around. He was a huge success at Southampton but would he be able to handle the pressure at Manchester United? That is the question that is yet to be answered. Manchester United have badly missed a young talent who can move forward with the ball and help at the back ever since Michael Carrick lost his form with injuries. But, Morgan Schneiderlin could well be the answer to all the prayers as the 25 year old promises to be a huge success. His first season at United will be crucial and he will surely look to impress at Old Trafford by providing key passes around the center of the park and sit back to defend when required.

Summary:

Manchester United seem to be under the 'transitional period' ever since the departure of Sir Alex but that might change this season. Under, Louis Van Gaal, the red devils seemed to be have finally settled. Manchester United did very decent business in this summer's transfer window bringing in Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Darmian but the possible departure of Di Maria and De Gea could dent the team's chances. The defense seems to be a huge concern for united but up front things look good. A top 4 finish will be a must or Van Gaal might face 'The Sack'.
