Islamabad - Pakistan’s Davis Cupper Samir Iftikhar was conferred upon ‘The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award’.

Samir, who played key role in helping Pakistan win Davis Cup semifinal against Indonesia, is the fourth male New Mexico student-athlete, sixth Lobo overall and third UNM tennis player to earn this honor.

About Samir, UNM’s men’s head coach Bart Scott said: “We are all so proud of Samir for his hard work on and off the court. This is a perfect end to a great career.

“To be able to get his MBA and his undergrad in four years is an outstanding achievement. His hard work is an example for his teammates and future Lobos. If you invest your time the way Sam did, the sky is the limit at UNM!”

PTF president Salim Saifullah Khan also congratulated Samir on achieving unprecedented accomplishments. “Samir made Pakistan and all of us proud not only by achieving distinction at his university where he studied and played but also by winning a crucial Davis Cup match against Indonesia. We wish him great successes in his professional career.”
