GUJRANWALA/SHEIKHUPURA
Nine persons including a woman were killed in different road accidents and mishaps during the past 24 hours.
In Gujranwala, four persons were killed when a car was hit by a moving locomotive train at a closed railway-crossing here in Kamoke. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Monday in which two persons were also injured. The dead included gatekeeper of the railway-crossing.
Arslan, a resident of Daska along with his friends - Ghulam Dastgir, Amir, Abid and Imran, riding a car, attempted to pass through a closed railway-crossing. In the meantime, a moving train hit the speeding car, killing gatekeeper Muhammad Nawaz, Ghulam Dastgir, Imran and Amir instantly. Two others - Arslan and Abid got serious injuries. The injured were shifted to a Lahore hospital.
In another incident, a man shot himself after killing his daughter over a petty family issue. Tahir, a resident of Wapda Town had a quarrel with his daughter Jaweria and in a fit of rage, he shot her dead. Later, he committed suicide by shooting himself. The Gujranwala Saddr Police have registered a case.
In Sheikhupura, 22-year-old Ashfaq, a resident of Nabi Pura was crushed to death by a train while across track.
In another incident one Falak Sher was knocked down by a speeding tractor-trolley near Narang Mandi. The driver of the vehicle escaped from the site. The police have started investigation.
Similarly, a motorcyclist namely Amanat died when his two wheelers rammed into a road dividing near Muridke. The pillion-rider also suffered injuries. The deceased along with his friend was going to Lahore on a bike when met the accident.
