Gen Kayani vows peace amid tensions with India

Pakistan's military chief Thursday vowed to maintain peace and security in the region, after the Mumbai attacks heightened tensions with nuclear armed rival India. The pledge came as the chief of the army staff General Ashfaq Kayani, addressed a meeting of top military commanders in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, an official statement said. Kayani said the "Pakistan Army stood for peace and security," according to the statement, which was released after the meeting.
