IG directed to arrest accused within 24 hours

LAHORE - Punjab Governor Salman Taseer while taking notice of the firing incident at Punjab University wherein 10 students injured, has asked the IG Police to arrest the responsible within 24 hours and report him. He expressed these views while talking to the newsmen after inquiring after the health of injured students Hafiz Mazahr Qayum and Asad Ali here in Jinnah Hospital Wednesday. He also directed the PU vice chancellor to take strict action against the accused. The governor said that some clues hade been found about the involvement of activists of an Islamic organisation in the incident and he pledged that law and order situation in the varsity would not be tolerated and those involved in it would be brought to justice. "No matter how influential the accused may be, they would be taken to task", the governor said, adding the chief minister had the same stance over this issue no body would be allowed to take the law in his hands. The governor directed the IG Police to ensure security within the university and to establish a police kiosk there if needed. He termed the incident an open terrorism and said it was not a political issue. He said no political party would be allowed to establish its hub in the educational institutions. Student unions elections would be held but those who have no concern with education would not be allowed to take part in it, he said.
