ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Trading Corporation of Pakistan(TCP) would purchase 0.5 million tons of rice from open market. Decision to this effect was taken in a meeting held here under Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal here on Wednesday. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Commerce here this afternoon, for this purpose TCP would immediately float a tender of 0.2 million tons of Irri-6 and KS-282 and 0.1 million tons of super Basmasti. The TCP would use storage facilities of the successful rice mills on the same pattern as was done in the case of purchase of sugar or any other alternate arrangement. It was also decided that Ministry of Commerce would expedite the finalization of three MOUs for the export of rice to Philippines and Indonesia if it is processing. The meeting also asked PASSCO to expedite supplying 150, 000 tons of rice to Ivory Coast as per their demand as early as possible.
