20 militants killed in Orakzai skirmishes

PESHAWAR (INP) - At least 20 militants were killed in clashes with security forces in different localities of Upper Orakzai Agency during Friday-Saturday midnight. Curfew has been imposed in some areas of the North Waziristan Agency. According to political administration sources, security forces continued forward movement in different areas of the Tribal Agency and engaged suspected hideouts extremists with heavy artillery fire. In Zakhtan, Irhang and Shakartangi security forces shelled the suspected hideouts of militants destroying five hideouts during which 12 extremists were killed. During action in Anzar Kali area of Upper Orakzai Agency militants resisted and started firing at security personnel. In retaliatory action at least eight militants were killed while two security personnel sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to Agency Headquarters Hospital Kalaya for treatment. Its worth mentioning that more than 200 extremists have been killed and dozens of hideouts destroyed in 3-week long security forces search drive in different areas of Orakzai Agency. The security forces have also begun action against extremists in Shakas and adjoining areas of tehsil Jamrud. According to political administration curfew has been imposed in the areas lying between Rafique Park and Datakhel Bazar localities of Miranshah, the tribal headquarter of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in order to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram.
