Muharram teaches sacrifice: Firdous

SIALKOT - Federal Information and Population Welfare Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday said that the government was committed to maintaining law and order during Muharram in the country. She appealed to Ulema and religious scholars, especially the general public forge complete unity among their ranks to foil the conspiracies and attempts of mischief elements who are hell-bent on disturb peaceful environment during Muharram. Speaking as chief gust at the 6th Hussain Sab Ka conference held here Saturday evening, Dr Firdous emphasised on people from all schools of thought, especially the Ulema that they should shun their petty issues and forge complete unity among their ranks to cope with challenges confronted by Muslim Ummah and weed out the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country. The minister appealed to the religious scholars and Ulema from all schools of thought that should refrain from delivering firebrand speeches during the month of Muharram and respect each others belief and sects and demonstrate sectarian harmony for larger national interests. Islam is the religion of brotherhood, tolerance, love and peace and forbids killing of innocent people and it is high time that we should collectively work for the elimination of the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country, she said and added Dr Firdous said that it is high time that every individual of the nation should respect each other conviction and exhibit the spirit of tolerance to cope with multifarious challenges and to outwit the anti-state and anti-Islamic forces which were trying to weaken Pakistan for their personal gains. Dr Firdous said that the objective of holding this conference was to disseminate the message of peace, brotherhood and unity among the masses across the country. The minister said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RS) and his companions rendered supreme scarifies in Karbala just for the glory of Islam and not for the rule. Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions fought for the supremacy of truth and didnt bowed down to the ineffectual forces for ensuring the glory of Islam and by virtue of this supreme scarifies, upheld dignity and righteousness of the region of Islam. She said that supreme scarifies rendered in Karbala would be remembered in all times to come and which were the beacon for the Muslim Ummah to get rid of multifarious problems and challenges in this modern world. The Information Minister also underlined the need for consulting women in different issues because Islam had not debarred women from expressing their views on various issues. On the occasion, the Federal Minister paid rich tribute to armed forces and expressed full solidarity with families of the martyrs who laid down their lives during attack on Pakistani checkpost. The Information Minister said that Sialkot was not only a hub of export activities but a nucleus of brotherhood, peace and love, adding that people would demonstrate their previous tradition during Muharram in every nook and corner by maintaining peace in Sialkot district. A large number of religious scholars and Ulema also spoke on the occasion.
