LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is strictly ensuring quality, transparency and timely completion about all development projects in the province. He said that besides improving the infrastructure, the government is implanting an effective strategy for providing best transport facilities to the masses. He said that a bus service has been launched in Lahore for providing comfortable and affordable transport facilities to the people in this regard and its scope is being extended gradually in all districts of the province. The CM said this during a meeting with Quarter Master General, Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani, here Saturday in which implementation of development schemes and the project of refurbishing old buses with the cooperation of National Logistic Cell were discussed. MPA Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Director General National Logistic Cell, Secretary Communication & Works and Director General LDA were also present in the meeting. Shahbaz Sharif commended performance of NLC in completing development and infrastructural projects and Kalma Flyover. He said that the projects of Muslim Town Flyover and widening of Lahore Canal Road are being executed speedily. He said in addition to plying new buses in the province, a project of refurbishment of old buses is also underway to bring another 300 buses on the road for public service. Of them, 75 buses would start plying on various routes this month. He said that NLC is also extending cooperation for refurbishment of old buses. He also inspected a bus refurbished with the cooperation of NLC on this occasion. Quarter Master General Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani also presented a key of this bus to the Chief Minister on this occasion. Earlier, a team of Japanese International Cooperation Agency(JICA) called on the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and presented to him a study report conducted with regard to Lahore Urban Transport Plan 2020-2030 which included steps like Rapid Mass Transit System (RMPS), Bus Rapid Service(BRS) and traffic management keeping in view the future requirements. The CM terming the study report a comprehensive one said that Lahore city is spreading fast and Lahore Urban Master Plan for traffic management and transport facilities to the masses in future is of great importance. He also directed to constitute a committee for reviewing this study report and submitting recommendations in this regard. Team leader of JICA Shoyama Takashi, Provincial Transport Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Member Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Khurram Gulfam, Secretaries of Transport, Communication & Works, Finance, Director General LDA and officers concerned attended the meeting. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the dengue situation, steps taken for its eradication and provision of diagnostic facilities to the people at reasonable rates. Various decisions were taken in the meeting to ensure availability of the best and quality diagnostic facilities to the people. The meeting also decided to constitute a committee for formulating recommendations in this regard. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said the provision of diagnostic facilities to the masses at reasonable rates is of great importance and in the first phase, standard of laboratories of government hospitals should be improved.
