JUI protests delay in Lowari Tunnel



PESHAWAR - Activists of Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (JUI) district Chitral held a protest demonstration on Monday against the new schedule for Lawari Tunnel and asked the government and authorities concerned to revise the timetable owing to masses difficulties.
The protestors led by JUI district ameer Maulana Abdur Rahman and general secretary Abdul Shakor holding placards inscribed with slogans in favor of their demands gathered here at main Sher Shah Suri road outside press club. Amid chanting full-throated slogans against the incumbent rulers, they rejected the announced schedule regarding the traveling through Lawari tunnel, only for three days in a week, and asked the government to keep Lawari Tunnel open round the week for some time as people were facing immense difficulties due to its closer. Talking to media persons, JUI District Ameer Mulana Abdur Rehaman lamented that all means of communications to district Chitral has been badly suffered due to constant closure of Lawari tunnel.
 “Government has announced a schedule to open the tunnel only for three days in a week which is not acceptable to dwellers, he warned and urged to keep open the tunnel round the year.
Rehman further said that the innocent passengers were also being highly charged in fares due to the tough schedule, whereas the government concerned authorities left the passengers on the mercy of the transporters. He criticized the rulers for not to paying heed towards their grievances. The protesting Chitralis asked the government to withdraw the schedule.
